American Staffordshire Terrier
History
American Staffordshire Terrier is a direct descendant of the English
Staffordshire Bull Terrier became famous in his homeland and around the
world. English Staffordshire Bull Terrier originated from crossbreeding Bulldog and fox
terrier and was also used, contrary to popular belief, not only as a fighting
dog. It was also popular among hunters, in order to knock down wild boars, was
used as a protector and guard, and these dogs were often kept, as butchers.
In the mid-19th century, many individuals were transported
to the United States, where dog owners and breeders founded their own breeding
programs and created their own clubs. In America, these dogs began to be called
amstaff, to somehow distinguish them from the English Staffordshire Bull Terriers.
Moreover, in America breeders bred larger individuals, which led to certain
consequences.
In 1976, official organizations (AKC, UKC) decided to change
the name of the breed, and clearly, separate Staffordshire terriers were grown in
America from their English brothers, as American dogs have already acquired
their own characteristic features, including larger sizes, although still have
much in common with English individuals.
American Staffordshire Terriers are now widely used as
watchdogs and assist in the work of law enforcement agencies. They participate
in weightlifting and agility competitions, but they are loved all over the
world primarily as pets.
Although, there is also a reputation for aggressive Fighting Dogs that makes some countries have laws restricting the content of the amstaff
breed. Also, it is not uncommon for insurance companies to have problems in
Europe and America. Anyway, today it is a very popular, versatile breed, which
enjoys success all over the world.

Personality
Contrary to popular belief, the American Staffordshire
Terrier is a very kind, responsive, and friendly dog. Of course, there are many
owners who realize the power of jaws and the capabilities of their pet, and
therefore consciously cultivate in it negative qualities and cultivate the aggressive perception of others.
However, if you are a normal person, you will raise your dog
accordingly, which means you should not be afraid that it will behave
inadequately and bring unreasonable harm to people or other animals. On the
other hand, you should understand the measure of responsibility, and try to
keep your dog from conflicting with other Dogs (and they are
possible - amstaff is fearless and dangerous). Or, especially, people, even if
they climb on the horn.
In the circle of his family American Staffordshire terrier,
or as it is called - amstaff, is a loving, extremely devoted, and open dog.
He will follow you to the end of the world, will be a devoted friend, and with
amazing perseverance will endure any hardships. And if the owner will raise his
dog correctly, take care of early socialization, will introduce her to his
friends, go to visit her, introduce other dogs and try to be friends
with Cats since childhood, his dog will be the soul of any company.
That's for sure. Although, sometimes there are cases when negative genes take
over and the dog has incorrigible aggression.
In fact, in the early stages of development, it is extremely
important to develop trust in animals to people, not only in their owners. At
the same time, you cannot worry that when intruders enter your apartment or
private house, the dog will want to make friends with them. It's not that kind
of breed. Most likely, the attacker will have to endure the most difficult
moments in his life.
Breed of dogs amstaff perfectly understands the situation,
is distinguished by high intelligence, perfectly understands people, and is
aware of its responsibility, if it is entrusted with the protection of the
territory. Although this breed does not have a tendency to bark at everything
that moves within its vision and hearing, at the right moment it will react as
it should.
These dogs are great as protectors, and many owners
specially train them for such tasks or hire a professional trainer for such
purposes. Keeping on a chain or in an aviary are not suitable
categorically, they need contact with people.
Needs walks and physical activity, a variety of active
games. Children are well received, especially if they are children from their
own families. Then it will be the best defender, best friend, and the best nanny
in the world. In fact, you will be surprised how affectionate and kind can be
this intimidating at first glance, fighting dog. But, if the owner is unfair,
or cruel, the dog will express his resentment.

activity, training, and training. In general, this breed is distinguished by
