Armenian Gampr Dog
history
Gampr is an Armenian dog breed with deep historical roots.
At the same time, it is necessary to understand that these pests are not
recognized in the world as a separate breed, as they belong to the type of
Landras. However, there are clubs not only in the native country, in Armenia,
but even in the USA.
It is impossible to specify at least approximate time
intervals during which the breed was formed and developed, but people know these
dogs for a long time. They entered local legends, fairy tales, and other
folklore. There are two varieties of the Gampr breed.
The first is purely guard dogs, they do not like
long-distance travel, are very territorial, more socialized, and have wonderful
innate protective instincts. If the area of the site is not fenced, it is
likely that they will try to "capture the surrounding land" (foreign
plots) as medieval princes. They also have a more square physique.
The second, on the contrary, does not like to sit all day in
one place (on one site - strictly defined own territory), less socialized. They
are excellent shepherds and guards for cattle. This variety has a slightly
smaller size, high energy level, and is more able to make independent decisions.
For several hundred years Armenia waged wars with various
invaders, and guard dogs were partially exterminated, partially removed, in
short - their number gradually decreased. Gampr was also taken to the central
part of the USSR, in particular, in the Nursery Red Star, there was a separate
program of breeding these dogs.
To date, there is a mixture of the original breed of Gampr
and other Caucasian breeds, in particular, Caucasian Shepherd, Central
Asian Shepherds, Anatolian Shepherds, And others. Many breeders
consider this a problem and they are certainly right. It is worth mentioning
that throughout its history, Gampr interbred with wolves, moreover, this
practice continues today, in the far regions of the country and to a lesser
extent.

The Gampr breed is a brave, incredibly loyal, and intelligent
dog. For many centuries of their existence, these pets have developed wonderful
instincts and valuable qualities have learned to understand a person from the
floor, to protect their family and property even at the cost of their own
lives.
Words - devotion to the owner, in this case, have a very
special meaning. The fact that the high intelligence, territoriality, and
responsibility of this breed, as well as the pack instincts, contribute to the
fact that the dog really feels like a member of the family. Moreover, she feels
like a real defender, a warrior hero, so to speak. And in the circle of their
family, these animals really bloom if they feel a good attitude and care.
Accordingly, Gampr sensitively perceives injustice and
cruel, mistreatment, he can resent and show stubbornness, if the owner offends
the dog and unfairly punishes him. Screams or reprimands from strangers are
either ignored or perceived in bayonets.
Attitude to children and family is gentle, caring, and even
tremulous. Although, too young children, up to 4 years, making a lot of noise,
can negatively affect the psyche of the animal, especially - the puppy. Early
socialization, acquaintance with other people, with other dogs, situations, and
places are highly recommended. If the dog lives in the same house as his owner,
he develops an incredibly strong relationship, and in his long absence will be
homesque.
Attitude to strangers wary, if a person will behave
defiantly or show negativity, the dog will immediately stand up. With
regard to learning, it is more necessary to form character and obedience, as
defensive instincts are themselves. But - they can always be developed because
the dog can assimilate a lot of commands. The main thing is to be a friend and
a fair leader of the pack for him.
