Vandeweet Petit Basset Griffon
history
In fact, the name of the breed - The Vendei Basset Griffin -
has already been embedded in both the description of the main distinguishing
features and the name of the area from which this dog originates. so. Basset
(low) griffin (hard-haired) Vend'en (region of origin of the breed in France).
This breed appeared in the 16th century and was intended for hunting rabbits.
Characteristics of the dog are fully suitable for hunting in
the area from which it comes - the west coast of France is quite rocky and uneven,
as well as covered with dense shrubs and blackberries. Therefore, to hunt
rabbits just need a dog, a hard coat to resist the thorns of
blackberries and branches, short paws to pass on the bottom of the bushes
(where it is easiest to pass), and - sufficient endurance combined with
agility.
These are necessary qualities so that the dog could work on
the rabbit for a long time without fatigue. By the way, the dwarf
basset-griffon van den (it is slightly larger in size) - another breed, they
should not be confused, although they are close. Although, to be fair, in
France until 1950 they were considered two varieties of the same breed.
Vandeweet Basset Griffin began to take part in exhibitions
in Great Britain in the mid-19th century. Moreover, at first, it was perceived
by many as a kind of Basset Hound and even demonstrated with him in
pairs, however, only over time did the public fully realize that these are two
different breeds. The American Kennel Club recognized the Vandam Griffin
Basset in 1990.

personality
The breed of Vandey basset griffin has a very funny,
cheerful character. These animals endlessly love their owners, are very loyal, and
show great love. Basically, now they are rarely used as hunting dogs, more
often it is just a favorite companion and friend for each of the family
members.
They love to play, have fun, and have above-average energy
levels, although over the years it decreases accordingly. Therefore, dogs need
at least an hour a day to spend on the street, and it is desirable to take it
in various active games. This is also important because without activity the
pet can gain excess weight, and with its elongated back and short legs, it is
extremely undesirable.
Increased load on the spine and joints over time will
certainly cause diseases. This breed treats people in general well, that is,
loves people and perceives them with friendliness. Even if it is a stranger,
the dog will not show a negative attitude toward him or, especially, aggression.
Well, family friends should always be ready to pay a little attention to your
dog, if you come to visit, as it will certainly require it.
Children of the Vande Basset Griffon perceive perfectly,
and always willingly spends time with them, especially as it is with children
you can always play. With other animals breed gets along without much trouble,
the only thing with cats is they are better to be friends at an early age, but
with small rodents, like guinea pigs, the dog cannot make friends at all.
Still, in the past, they were actively used for hunting.
