Bolognese Dog
History
The breed of Bolognese dog is one of the most recognizable
in Europe. We constantly see such dogs in parks, on the streets, with owners of
different ages, although for some reason traditionally they often become
companions of the elderly. Despite its recognizability and widespread
distribution on the European continent, many do not even know how ancient this
breed is. The first written mentions in Italian books date back to the 13th
century - 800 years to be human companions, it is, you will agree, a lot.
The breed of Bolognese is a member of the bichon family
group, which consists of breeds:
- bichon frise;
- Lowchen;
- Maltese Bolognese (Maltese);
- Harbors;
- Coton de Tulear;
- the Tenerife bichon, which has become extinct to date;
- Russian colored bologna;
- and, in fact, bolognese.
Accurate data on the origin of the breed of bolognese is not
available, however, in medieval Italy, and in other European countries of the
15th-19th century, these little dogs with curly hair loved noble ladies and
even noble cavaliers. This is somewhat reminiscent of the fashion for small
dogs, which can be seen today, although now there is a much greater variety of
breeds.
The great popularity of the breed in the aristocratic houses
of the Middle Ages is confirmed by numerous objects of art, especially
paintings and tapestries of the 17th-18th century. Examples include the works
of such great masters as Francisco Goya, Jean-Antoine Watto, and Nicolas Gosse.
Among the owners of these dogs can be distinguished Madame de Pompadour, queen
Catherine the Great, and Empress Maria Teresa of Austria. In the early 2000s,
paradoxically, this breed has only just begun to register in international
registries.

Description
The breed of dog bolognese has small sizes and curly wool.
The head is round, the muzzle is slightly flattened, and the ears hang on the
cheeks. Paws are medium-length and proportional to body size, although because
of the volume of wool, it sometimes seems as if they are short. The torso has
square shapes, and the tail is short, curved, and draped upwards. The color is white;
the hair does not shed.
Personality
These are kind and lovely animals with lively, open
character. They like to play with their family and other dogs, and this trend
persists not only at an early age but also after maturation. On the other
hand, they cannot be called hyperactive - they are quite balanced. Dog
bolognese creates a strong bond with its owner and members of his family, loves
attention, but she gives attention and caresses his loved ones with excess.
When we talk - likes attention, we mean not only stroking,
belly massage, scratching behind the ears, affectionate words, etc. When you
talk to your pet, spend time with him when he just lies next to the couch while
you watch your favorite show on TV when he feels your care and attention - he
is happy.
And, on the contrary, if the owner spends little time with
his dog, and generally treats it more as a duty, the animal feels it and is
sad. Bolognese is great for children, love to play with them and walk in the
street. Walking, in general, is the weakness of these dogs - they love to walk
and, moreover, are very good if you walk with other "dogs." Bolognese gets
along well with dogs of all sizes, and even with Cats although the latter
is better to enter the circle of communication from an early age.
This breed does not tolerate loneliness, and they cannot be
left alone for a long time. Even if you are a lonely owner and go to work every
day for at least 8-9 hours, it is better to think about another pet or another
breed, as the Italian bologna will feel extremely uncomfortable, yearn, and
generally experience a lack of attention and activity.
And this, as you know, leads to negative consequences for
the psyche of the animal, which often directly affects the behavior and
condition of your apartment. That is, the dog can become nervous, and in your
absence arrange home an absolute mess, and even punishment will not help
to prevent it in the future.
Teaching
The breed of dog bolognese refers to decorative and
therefore does not require training in special skills. However, you definitely
need to take care of correcting your pet's behavior, as well as training a few
basic commands, such as "to me," "sit," "fu" (the
cancellation team, it is needed, for example, when the pet wants to eat
anything found under the bush of questionable kind and smell).
Avoid monotony in the classes, as the bologna is quickly
bored, as well as shouting and excessive rigor. In principle, this can be done,
because even simple commands associated with the action ("next,"
"voice" etc.), or more complex commands, decorative breeds do not
need. This is necessary in rare cases when the dog is a companion of a person
with special needs. To do this, hire a special trainer who performs the task
based on specific conditions.
Care
Dogs of the breed of bolognese need to brush their curly
wool 2-3 times a week, although some recommend doing it every day, especially
after active walks in the park or outdoors.
Also, be sure to bathe your pet at least once a week, and
once a month you need to adjust the haircut.
This breed in general is sometimes trimmed in the most
intricate way - here everything depends on the owner. Do not forget to keep an
eye on the cleanliness of the ears and eyes, as well as pruning the claws.
Common Diseases
It may even seem strange, but the breed of dog bolognese is
almost not sick and does not suffer from complex hereditary diseases. The exception may be:
- hip dysplasia;
- elbow dysplasia;
- local dislocation of the kneecap.
