American Hairless Terrier
History
The American Hairless Terrier is a breed that originates
from dogs called feast dogs. Feist is a mixed breed introduced to the United States at the dawn of the formation of this country in the 18th
century. One hundred years later, the file was chosen as the basis for the
creation of the so-called rat terriers - dogs of this type were very popular in
farms, warehouses, and shops throughout the country.
To get a rat terrier, Italian greyhounds, as well as a beagle and
a miniature pinscher, were added to the breed. The rat terrier
(or rat terrier) served faithfully to many people in America, and, once, namely
in 1972, an unusual puppy was born. He was bald.
It happened at the farm of Edwin and Willy Scott, in
Louisiana. Nine years later, Josephine - the so-called puppy, gave the
first offspring, which also turned out to be hairless. In fact, dogs born
of Josephine became the first puppies of the American Hairless Terrier, from
which all the lines that exist today are traced.
In 1998, the breed was recognized as the American Hairless
Terrier (ANT) by the American Rare Breeds Association and the National Club of
Rat Terriers. In 1999, this breed was recognized by the Kennel Club as a
Rat Terrier, Naked Variety.

Personality
These are very energetic and active dogs, which always have
little movement. That is, daily walks in the amount of two, at least 30
minutes each is a prerequisite for the maintenance of such a dog, however, if
you think that after the walk he will calmly lie at home for half a day at
home, you are mistaken. He will look for an opportunity to participate in
family affairs, will ask to play with him, or will play on his own.
Therefore, you definitely need to make sure that your pet
has plenty of toys. Of course, hunting instincts are also an indispensable
attribute of the American Hairless Terrier breed. If you are going to the
park or going on a picnic with friends in the forest, be sure - your pet will
certainly try to catch some prey. It can be a squirrel, a mouse, a hare,
or even a bird. Be sure to train obedience, because otherwise - to be in
trouble.
If you release him from a leash in the forest, you may need
to look for the dog for a long time and stubbornly, as pursuing an interesting
smell, he can get a little carried away and run quite far. In fact, if you
do not pay due attention to learning and obedience, then this can happen during
a walk in the park.
Since this is a terrier, he also likes to dig. If you
have a private house with a plot on which there are flower beds, beds with
vegetables, a lawn, be sure that the dog will definitely try to dig
holes. It is better to teach her to dig holes in one place from a very
young age.
Children are perceived normally, positively, always happy to
play, and have fun. The child must be taught the proper handling of the
animal, in order to avoid unpleasant moments, since the dog has its own limit
of patience. Strangers are generally perceived normally, but if the dog
realizes itself as a guard on its territory, of course, it will perceive them
incredulously and react to any suspicious phenomena.
The American Hairless Terrier has a good intellect,
understands a person well, but sometimes emotions and impulses still
prevail. With other animals, the situation may be different, same-sex
aggression is possible. It is unlikely that you will use the American
naked terrier for catching rats, but if he lives in a private house, he will
certainly do it. In any case, he will become a great companion for the
whole family, very funny, funny and cheerful.
He shows great love and devotion to his family, and adapts
well to various living conditions, does not tolerate cold, this is obvious -
due to lack of hair. Therefore, in cold weather, a warm jumpsuit is
needed. It is also not recommended to be too long in the open sun on hot
days. By the way, this rare breed can be a good option for a person who is
allergic to the down and hair of pets. Although it cannot be called
completely hypoallergenic.
Training terrier dog
The American Hairless Terrier breed needs early
socialization, like most dogs, to make the character more harmonious, soft, and
open to other dogs and people. These pets have a large amount of energy
and need training and obedience training. The training sessions should not be
too long, they can be divided into two.
Make sure that the session is not monotonous, otherwise, the
dog will get bored quickly. Training must necessarily include elements of
games, various active exercises. You need to have a good sense of humor,
to be patient, wise, and a kind master who knows how to control himself. The
breed can be trained in basic commands, but this is far from the limit.
Care of terrier dog
As you know, in individuals that do not have a coat of wool,
there is no need for combing. Those individuals that have short hair need
a maximum of combing once a week. You need to bathe the dog at least 1
time per week, picking up a shampoo with a suitable pH. Claws are cut
about 3 times a month, ears are cleaned 2-3 times a week, eyes are cleaned
daily. By the way, the breed does not have sweat glands on the skin.
Common diseases in terrier
The American Hairless Terrier breed has good health and good
immunity and is rarely exposed to any disease.
- allergy - it can even be on grass, and on many other things;
- skin pigmentation in the sun.
