American Pitbull Terrier
History of American pit bull terrier breeders
In the early 20th century, several wild entertainment shows involving animals, such as bullfighting and bear dogs, were popular in England. It was for such a furious and bloody sport was created a breed of dog’s pit bull terrier.
In 1935, this type of entertainment was considered inhumane and harmful to society, as a result of which it was banned at the legislative level. However, in place of one forbidden bloody entertainment immediately created another - dogfights, where the breed pit bull terrier also gained huge fame. This is not surprising - powerful jaws, strong muscular body, great endurance, and excellent reaction, wonderful instincts, and fearlessness - all these qualities have made history with the pit bull terrier.
Also, an important feature of pit bull terriers is the reluctance to bite people, which plays a huge role in dog fights. Trainers need from time to time to separate the animals, and with a minimal chance of self-harm - a pit bull terrier in this regard is probably the safest dog. Although, of course, with due diligence, it is possible to train it for security functions, including the attack on a person (usually for protection purposes).
After these dogs were brought to America, they began to perform just security functions, to protect homes and livestock. And local American breeders have grown a larger variety of breeds than the British. In 1898, UKC, the British equivalent of the American AKC, named these dogs an American pit bull terrier. The ACC decided to recognize the breed in the early 1930s but under a different name.
In order to separate them from the cruel past - bloody battles, the AKS called the breed an American Staffordshire terrier. Since then, the American Staffordshire Terrier has been bred for AKC conformation or dog shows. Differences in the structure of the body and personality of the American pit bull terrier and the American Staffordshire Terrier are very small because, in fact, it is the same breed.
