Anatolian Shepherd Dog
(Turkish Kangal, Karabash)
History
The breed of dogs Anatolian Shepherd belongs to one of the
oldest, and, according to various archaeological studies, comes from hunting
dogs that lived for 4000 years BC Their range of existence was in the territory
of Mesopotamia, which includes part of modern Turkey. Due to its outstanding
qualities as a defender and guard, thanks to its great strength, fearlessness,
ability to resist even large predators, this dog has earned the respect of
ancient people.
It can be said that the development of the breed took place
naturally, due to the specifics of the activity and the way of life that
predetermined this activity. This can include the protection of livestock in
pastures, the protection of households, and hunting. Add to this a difficult
climate, a large number of dangers, and, often, the need to roam with their
owners or herds, moving on the Anatolian plateau. For many centuries of such
life, the breed has hardened and has found clear outlines, which in many
respects remain today.
The dog came to England thanks to archaeologist Charmian
Hussey - he took several people with him around 1970. Since then, the breed of
Anatolian Shepherd began to conquer the Western world, having previously
conquered the eastern, for many centuries of service to people.
By the way, these dogs are very appreciated in Australia,
where they appeared in 1985, and today is very popular along with the
breed Australian Kelpie. However, if the latter is used for grazing, the
Anatolian Shepherd serves security functions directly inside farmland.
There is now a lively debate as to whether the Anatolian
Shepherd Dog is an independent breed, or whether the name can be described as a whole family of breeds similar to each other and living in the same territory.
They include the dog Turkish Kangal, Akbash, and others.

Description
These are large dogs with muscular physiques. They have
long, strong paws, powerful breasts, and a wide head with ears hanging on the
front part. The tail is fluffy, usually not bought. Weighing about 60-70 kg,
the dog at first glance does not look as massive as, for
example, Alabai (at a similar weight), but it's a deceptive feeling.
The coat has an undercoat.
Personality
The dog breed Anatolian Shepherd has great endurance and
strength, and, not only external but also internal, that is - the strength of
character. It is not recommended to have inexperienced owners or people of timid
temper. If you are just such a person, at least hire an experienced trainer who
would help to raise your pet.
This character trait is connected with the fact that the
breed grew and developed over several thousand years in conditions of almost
absolute loneliness. The dog was required to be protected by herds of cattle,
without any special education and socialization. Therefore, in today's
conditions, it is socialization and proper education that is necessary.
However, the dog in any case will retain its own
independence - they keep a certain distance from strangers and unfamiliar
guests of your house, watching what is happening from the outside. Sharp
intelligence allows them to understand the owner and his requirements
perfectly, but comments or rigor must be justified and fair.
This is a wonderful guard who will easily stop a big man on
the run and will be at the cost of his life to protect the owner and his
family. They have a penchant for innate aggression, but there is also kindness.
If the Anatolian Shepherd dog is too angry, you may even find it difficult to
stop her on command - consider it.
This breed loves walking, and generally likes to spend time
outdoors, loves activity and games, needs training and communication. The ideal
place for its maintenance is a private house with a courtyard, in part because
it is very territorial. The Anatolian Shepherd Dog treats children and other
pets, including cats. Although the latter should be introduced into the circle
of communication from an early age.
Teaching
Since it is an ancient breed with great inner strength, it
will not be easy for a host with a weak character. After all, it is necessary
to have confidence in their actions and words, without fear of the response of
the animal or its disobedience. This inner confidence is the key to the dog's
consciousness.
Training should begin at about six months old, and first to
achieve the execution of simple commands. To do this, you can even help the dog
to take the right posture, combining it with the team to form a logical
connection. Here it is important perseverance and patience - it is necessary to
return the pet to the process without anger. After all, he will want to play
and run in 10 minutes. At first, it can be combined with games, but gradually it
should become a serious occupation. Breaks should not be allowed.
Obedience and execution of commands always go along with the
promotion of success and punishment for wrongdoing, it is an axiom. But,
remember that the punishment should not be excessive. Many choose training with
a professional trainer, and act very wisely - it will give the best results.
Thus, at home, you will fix the material passed with a specialist.
Common Diseases
Breed of dogs Anatolian Karabakh has good immunity and endurance and is able to withstand most known diseases. However, poor heredity and poor
pet care can cause the following disorders.
- hip dysplasia - hereditary disease;
- elbow dysplasia - this breed is not hereditary but arises due to improper content and development of bones;
- zomodekosis - it is caused by a demodex mite;
- hypothyroidism;
- entropion.
Also, according to recent studies, out of 23 test dogs, 4
died due to cancer in old age.
Care
Thick wool with an undercoat requires at least, combing 1-2 times a week. Be sure to prune the claws, as well as make sure that the ears and eyes of the animal were clean, clearing them of sediment. You can buy a dog once a week or more often, if necessary.
