 English Cocker Spaniel

History

Cocker Spaniel is a breed widely known all over the world, and in England, these dogs have been known since the early Middle Ages. Cute animals, which now act as companions, in those distant times were mainly used during hunting woodcocks and other birds.

However, some monarchs loved their spaniels so much that they were seen primarily as companions, not parting with them either in bed or at council meetings - this was famous King Charles ll. He even issued a special law that allowed the appearance of a spaniel in any government agency. Despite the fact that other dogs were strictly forbidden to enter such places.

By and large, the English Spaniel is not much different from its fellow - American Cocker Spaniel. In fact, many people are interested in what the difference is, and this can be given the only unambiguous answer - size. In fact, the same breed developed in England and America since the early 20th century, however, American breeders grew smaller dogs, while the British were noticeably larger.

At the same time, both in the 4th and in the 4th, it was possible to find puppies of different sizes, and it was considered normal. Even Shakespeare can be found mentioning Cocker Spaniels of different sizes.

However, in 1930, international organizations still decided to divide these dogs into two separate breeds. Moreover, the division of spaniels into many different types appeared only in the late 19th century. Although up to this point they were mostly divided into terrestrial and aquatic. English Cocker Spaniel, by the way, refers to terrestrial.

In addition to size, American Cocker Spaniels around the 30s of the last century have acquired other characteristics. In particular, they were dogs with a shorter snout, a more rounded skull, and a denser cover of wool, so in 1935 breeders in England and the U.S. decided to separate them.

However, the American Kennel Club supported this decision only in 1946 - immediately after the Second World War II. Accordingly, some were given the name of English Cocker Spaniels, while others began to be called - American Cocker Spaniel. Moreover, each of the varieties is very popular in their country and today is included in the list of the most sought-after breeds.

Personality

The breed of dogs English Cocker Spaniel - it is a friendly, kind, and sympathetic pet. They have an open character, and very much love people, and not only those with whom they live but also strangers. It can be said that these dogs as if by default are always happy, and very rarely succumb to sadness, and in combination with love for people, they immediately try to make friends with everyone and pass on to others a part of their mood.

Unhappy them can do a few things, and first, it is the absence of the hosts for a long time. In other words, the animal is extremely hard to endure a long separation from its owner, family, and therefore for a long time, it is better not to leave it alone. If you go on a long vacation as a family, it is better to take the dog with you, it is better than to leave it with friends. Roughness, injustice, beatings - the next factor.

The English Cocker Spaniel has almost no internal aggression, and in general, has a balanced and harmonious character. You can be sure that your pet will never start a quarrel with another dog in the park and will not cause ridiculous conflicts. English Cocker Spaniel needs long walks, physical activity, and games, if he does not get these things, he spoils not only the character but also the appearance.

The dog will start to gain excess weight and turn into a little capricious and perhaps even destructive (when no one is at home) animal, which can serve as a decoration of the sofa. To date, for hunting these dogs are practically not used, and perform only the role of companions, good friends for the whole family.

Therefore, do not hope that starting a Cocker Spaniel in a private house, he can be a watchman and warn about the approach of danger in the form of a man - on the contrary, most likely, he does not recognize the intruder, and will run up to him wagging his tail, waiting for yummy. That is, the dog can bark at foreign noises, etc., but you have to understand that the people in her mind are not a threat, and it does not have the genetic roots of the guard of the territory, such as that of the Caucasian Shepherd.

Despite all the love for their owners, on an affectionate and kind character, sometimes the breed can appear stubborn. This is due to the fact that sometimes the dog sees no reason to perform the command, and wants to act in his own way. There is no panacea here other than teaching obedience.

The English Cocker Spaniel is a smart animal that understands the person well, recognizes the changes in the mood of the hosts, and can be used not only as a companion for the average person but also as a companion for a person with disabilities. Children are perceived well like to spend time with them, if the child is too small (up to 5 years), it is better not to leave the dog alone. Just in case, it is not clear how the dog can react if the child wants to climb into his mouth or put his finger in his ear.

Teaching

Breed English Cocker Spaniel in general is well-trained and even needs it, as it will make the life of the dog more diverse, develop its internal qualities and form a more correct character. In addition, the intelligence of the spaniel also needs food. Since these pests have a very soft, friendly, and affectionate character, rigid methods of training them are better not to apply.

On the contrary, be also gentle, kind, flexible, and harmonious host, who has a good sense of humor, is always patient, and if he shows strict treatment, he never overreacts and is always fair.

Be sure to train your dog on basic commands, and make sure that it comes at your request. Since the spaniel is a smart dog, you can train it and more complex commands, and even attract specialists for this purpose, creating a guide dog, and an assistant to a person with disabilities.
