Bloodhound
History
For many years, humanity has known dogs that are able to
hunt down animals only by subtle smell. The bloodhound breed belongs to this
type, although the first reliable evidence (a poem by Sir Humphrey de Bohun) of
their existence dates back to 1350.
In those distant times, bloodhound was used exclusively for
hunting, primarily boar, elk, and deer, and it was mostly kept to know, as well
as some priests who were fond of hunting. And despite the fact that there is no
earlier evidence of the breed under this name, the forerunners of the breed,
the dogs of St. Huber existed before.
After all, St. Huber lived at the end of the 7th century and was a fanatical hunter, and his addiction he partly retained even going to
the monastery after the death of his wife. He is still revered as the patron
saint of hunters and some elderly people in France to this day sometimes call
the Bloodhounds the dogs of St. Huber.
In England, these pets got in 1066, on the ships of William
the Conqueror. For several centuries, they were highly regarded in England, and Queen Elizabeth I kept a whole flock of such dogs. One of them William
Shakespeare described in his work "A Midsummer Night's Dream". In
addition to the ability to hunt down prey, they were also greatly valued for
the opportunity to follow the trail of man and used to hunt down criminals.
The breed has always been popular among the aristocracy, in
addition, these dogs supported and the royal family.
In modern times, this breed is considered quite rare, while
used in law enforcement and search and rescue services, due to its keen sense
of smell. Bloodhound also participates in exhibitions around the world and is
recognized by all the world's official cytological federations.

Description
The bloodhound dog has a strong physique, good musculature,
and a massive head. Most of the folds are on the muzzle and in the head area. The ears are small. The limbs are of medium length, the tail is medium, and the hair is
short.
Personality
The breed of a hound dog, despite its forbidding
look and size, loves folks pretty much. And even taking into consideration the very fact that with the assistance of those dogs to the present day catch
fugitive criminals and search out banned trespassers, love for folks remains a
vital attribute of the character of those animals.
Another thing is that in the past they were used by slave owners and specially nurtured in dogs' hatred and bloodthirsty. By the way, it is because of their attitude to people, now these dogs are practically not used as watchmen and for protection, although if the offender tries to attack you, your pet will certainly stand up for you. However, despite their devotion and love, they can be wayward enough and sometimes act on their own.
With
strangers, if it is a family friend, the dog at first contact is likely to
behave shyly, but, it takes place with a closer acquaintance with the person.
Children are perceived well, kindly, cases when these animals were aggressive
with the child, can be counted on the fingers - it is a huge rarity.
Bloodhound has a fairly high level of energy, although it is not fidgeting, and therefore needs exercise and daily walks. By the way, on the street becomes an obvious instinct of the persecutor and hunter - the dog
searches for interesting smells and constantly breaks to follow them, so the
owner should be vigilant. In addition, it is necessary to maintain the tone of
the musculature.
The Bloodhound dog is perfect for keeping in a private house
with its own yard, but it may well get along in the apartment. These animals
are quite attached to their family, and therefore leaving them for a long time
with friends is not a good idea. If you travel a lot and doing it together with
your four-legged friend is not possible, it is better to pick up another Dog
breed.
Some bloodhounds can bark loudly and a lot in an agitated
state, while others, on the contrary, do not tend to cast a voice, you can't
guess. In general, the breed is different in obedience, although their own
character must get used to. The main thing, do not try to take the dominant
position solely from a position of strength - it will not only negatively
affect the character of the pet, but also in principle will build a
relationship with the animal not as a friend, but as a subordinate.
Teaching
The breed of a bloodhound, in general, quite positively
perceives the process of training, although their independent nature can
sometimes make its own adjustments. Try to build a relationship with your dog
on the fact that the training process is an interesting occupation in every
way.
That is if you see that the dog begins to get bored, try to
translate everything into the format of the game, give it a good taste, and
generally defuse the situation by motivating your pet, so that the classes were a
dog to his liking, and not because she was forced to do so.
When learning, you need to be patient, positive and have a
good sense of humor.
Care
The breed of bloodhound dog has a short coat, and therefore
it should be combed once a week. That's usually enough. Eyes from sediment
should be cleaned daily, ears are usually cleaned 2-3 times a week. The claws
are trimmed three times a month, you need to bathe the dog at least once a
week. Among other things, watch for the cleanliness and condition of the skin
folds.
Common diseases
Bloodhound is a relatively healthy breed, but some diseases
occur in these dogs. These include:
- hip dysplasia is a hereditary disease;
- elbow dysplasia;
- hypothyroidism;
- Ectropion;
- entropion - usually manifested at the age of six months;
- epilepsy;
- gastro-dilatation Volvulus (inflating of the stomach);
- folding dermatitis - a skin infection caused by friction or moisture retention in the folds of the skin.
