Basenji Dog

History

The breed of basenji dogs are, in fact, a kind of domesticated wolf. Of course, the wolf and this domesticated dog, animals are different, but very close. After all, Fabenji is a wild dog that has gone not far from its ancestors, or rather brothers, wolves. Moreover, this breed was domesticated a long time ago, perhaps a few thousand years ago, back in the time of ancient civilizations and the first people.

The breed of basenji dogs was born and developed on the African continent and the locals are extremely appreciated, and still appreciate, these truly amazing animals. In ancient times, there were special hunters who hunted for fables, and even now the inhabitants of remote areas say that hunting for fables - a matter more complex and valuable than hunting for his wife. Apparently, there's some truth to that.

Aborigines valued dogs for their wonderful hunter qualities, incredible animal instinct, excellent smell, and hearing, as well as for the amazing mind, which sometimes shows the wonders of ingenuity.

Today the breed is considered rare, and no wonder. After all, when for the first time, in the late 19th century, the Europeans found these dogs in the Congo and tried to transport several individuals to the U.S., all the animals very quickly died. They were completely unsuitable for other environmental conditions, climate, ecology, and most importantly - for completely different diseases.

The first dog, which was able to survive in the new place, appeared only in 1930. Based on this positive experience, breeders were able to bring a few more individuals (dogs appeared in the U.S. and the UK), so they created a small population, and then founded a club. The Fabenji Club was established in 1942. In 1943 the breed was recognized by the American Kennel Club.

Personality

The breed of basenji dogs are very funny and cheerful animals that have a high level of energy, are always cheerful, and are extremely curious. You can say that this is a very unusual dog, which will bring you a lot of joy and unexpected moments, make you smile and maybe cause some inconvenience. After all, it is a living being with its pros and cons of character.

Since it is a domesticated dog, it has a very high level of intelligence, and internal independence, so do not expect that it will unquestioningly obey you. It's not that kind of breed. In this case, the dog should understand why and why it performs commands, which means, at a minimum, it should recognize in you the owner and leader, for your internal qualities. Not for superiority.

This is generally extremely not effective with this breed, as rudeness and beating you only set the dog against itself, which will make its character more depressed, introverted, timid. But at the same time, almost certainly - incredibly stubborn, and you will not achieve obedience by any beatings. But if the dog becomes your friend - quiet.

The curiosity of the fables is truly legendary - if you want to hide food from it, take care of it twice. The dog can wait, wait for the night when no one interferes, then climb on a chair, from a chair on a countertop near the refrigerator, from there to the refrigerator itself, and so on. Agility, flexibility, resourcefulness - with all this you have to live daily, and therefore think twice also about whether you should even start this breed. However, they are very devoted and loving friends. By the way, in a private house should be a high fence without holes, otherwise, the dog can go to explore the world.

Since these are hunting dogs, accept the fact that they will hunt for everything in their reach. Whether cat, squirrel, pigeons, or mole in your garden. Most likely, sooner or later you will see all these animals in a mortuary form, but there is nothing you can do. On the other hand, Fabenji is a smart dog, so it can be taught to live with any animal under one roof. That is, in the mind the dog can be "their" cat, which is like a friend, but here all the other cats will still be prey.

They need long walks, they need to realize their energy and have physical activity. Be sure to visit parks, go to nature, a very good idea would be to run with the dog in the park in the mornings or in the evenings. Strangers are mostly ignored, but in relation to loved ones show tenderness and friendliness. Children are treated normally.

Completely unsuitable for functions watchdog because almost never bark. Basenji can go to the 1980s once, and that's to be limited. Researchers suggest that this feature can be both natural, by nature, and acquired in time immemorial. People could teach dogs to be quiet during hunting, and then, due to the natural interbreeding between wild and domesticated individuals, this tendency could remain in the genes. And maybe there is one and the other.

Teaching

Basenji needs early socialization and proper education. He appreciates a just, balanced, and kind master. Always be patient, do not try to break the dog - most likely you will only harm it and do not achieve anything sensible. Misdemeanors can be punished differently, for example, showing all kinds of attitudes to the dog's actions, as well as delaying the moment of eating.

In training, you have to be patient and kind. Don't make the classes too monotonous, otherwise, the fabenji will get bored. Here the key is diversity, consistency, and alternating teams with physical activity, and active games.

Care

Basenji has almost no dog smell and is considered the purest dog. She washes like a cat.

The breed has a very short coat and practically does not need to care for it. Scratching once a week is the maximum. Always clean your eyes from sediments daily, watch the clean ears, bathe the dog once a week, and trim the claws 3 times a month.

The metabolism of the fables is different from that of regular dogs, and you may not immediately be able to find the right food. Also note that females have a current only once a year, although recently increases the number of individuals who have leaks twice a year. The cold breed does not tolerate, it because in winter it is necessary to warm up.

Basenji can adapt well to living in an apartment, but daily walks are a must because she has a high level of activity. Her needs can be met by a long walk followed by energetic games.
